Summer University institutes a zone of autonomy to experiment with the production and exchange of knowledge. Following on from last summer’s edition, this year’s programme cuts across disciplines and methods of presentations. Multiple activities (workshops, lectures, performances, screenings, readings) will run at any one time alongside semi-permanent labs.

About PAF - Performing Arts Forum

Initiated in 2005, PAF - Performing Arts Forum is an artists residency situated in the north of France, 150 km north-east from Paris in the heart of the Champagne region. It is located in a former convent surrounded by a 1.2 hectare garden in the village of St. Erme-Outre-et-Ramecourt. 

It is a forum for practitioners and activists in the fields of performing arts, visual art, literature, music, new media and internet, theory, cultural production, and science, who seek to research and determine their own conditions of work. 

PAF is a place for production; it is also produced and maintained daily by the people who stay here through a practice of self-organization and collaborative sustainability. PAF is for people who foster artistic and knowledge production beyond the opportunities given by the institutional market. Neither a production-house and venue, nor a research-center, PAF is a platform for everyone who wants to expand possibilities and interests in their own working practice.

PAF Summer University was first organized in 2005 by a number of artists, thinkers and practitioners to replace the notion of Renaissance-style “art academy”. As a temporary summer university, SU does not require participants to apply and its programming relies on self-organized  modes of programming.

Practicalities

PAF is a self-organized institution. Its functioning relies on voluntary work and income generated from stays in the building. The prices to attend SU23 are as follows:

‍Stay: 18€ per person per night, if you stay more than 5 nights; otherwise 20€ per night.
Food: 14€ per day (breakfast, lunch, dinner).
Event fee: 10€, regardless of length of stay.
PAF Membership: 12€ per year.

If you would like to come but your resources are limited, send us a heads-up and we will try to find a solution. There will be an excellent team of cooks who will coordinate the kitchen, but they will need help from all of us. 
We can only accept payments in cash or French cheques, so bring it along (there is an ATM in the village).
